Our Legacy
Alles Brothers Furniture has a history in furniture that dates back to 1860 when the Alles family made their entrance into the furniture business in Jasper, Indiana. The Prussian-born Alles brothers manufactured and sold their own products including furniture, cabinets, coffins, and caskets. On April 28, 1893, Joseph W. Alles opened his doors for business in Mount Vernon, Indiana — and since that day there have been five generations of Alleses in the original 1893 location. From a small wooden storefront to the landmark brick building that still stands on Second Street, Alles Brothers has been a cornerstone of the community for over 130 years.
The original two-story wooden storefront where the Alles brothers first opened for business. In those early days the store sold furniture, mattresses, coffins and caskets — serving every stage of life in the Mount Vernon community.
By mid-century the next generation had expanded into the iconic three-story brick building on Second Street. Canvas awnings shaded the storefront windows while inside the selection grew to include Perfection oil stoves, Crosley radios, and of course fine furniture.
Three generations and over 130 years later, the same building stands proudly at 131 West Second Street. The storefront has been modernized with full-height glass displays for Bedroom, Mattresses, Carpet, Flooring, Dining Room, Living Room and Home Office — but the family values remain exactly the same.
Milestones

As Mount Vernon grows, so does the store. Alles Brothers becomes the go-to destination for families outfitting their homes across the Tri‑State area.
The next generation of the family takes the helm, expanding the showroom and building the iconic brick storefront that still stands on Second Street today.
Three generations later, Alles Brothers continues to deliver the same handshake promise: quality furniture, non-commissioned guidance, and white-glove delivery to every customer.
